The state of Michigan has apologized after a photo of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was shown on a video board during a pre-game entertainment event for a local state university football game. Attendees captured the image of Hitler on the large screen at Spartan Stadium, accompanied by a question asking about his birthplace, about an hour before the game started. The image sparked widespread controversy after being circulated on social media.
Statement from Matt Larson, the athletic director at Michigan State University: "The university is aware that inappropriate content from an external source was displayed on the video board prior to the start of tonight's football game. We deeply regret the content that was displayed, as it does not reflect our institutional values. Michigan State University will cease reliance on the third party that provided the image and will implement stronger vetting procedures for all video board content from now on."
