The official from the Seoul police, Jeong Jin-ho, noted today, Wednesday, that "the South Korean police are investigating whether a group of North Korean hackers, accused of stealing data from 14 entities, obtained information on defense technology including anti-aircraft lasers." Jeong Jin-ho, who heads a team in the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department investigating the case, told Reuters that "the investigation is being conducted in cooperation with the FBI and aims to determine the significance of the data acquired by the hacking group known as Andariel." In 2019, the U.S. Treasury listed Andariel as a North Korean-funded hacking group specializing in executing "malicious" cyber intrusions targeting foreign companies, government agencies, and the defense sector. Local media reported this week that "the data cache included important military secrets of South Korea."
