Russian air defenses shot down a drone over the Moscow region and another over the city, according to Moscow's mayor on Wednesday, marking the sixth night of attacks on the Russian capital. Sergey Sobyanin stated on Telegram: "Tonight, the air defense shot down a drone over Mozhaysky in the Moscow region. The second drone targeted a construction site in the city." He noted that there were no reported injuries according to initial reports.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department warned Ukraine, stating that Washington "does not encourage drone attacks on Russia." RIA Novosti reported hearing an "explosion" in the business district of Moscow, adding that "shortly after, smoke billowed from buildings in the same area." TASS news agency cited emergency services reporting minor damage to a construction building in the business district.
TASS also reported from the aviation authority that air traffic was halted at Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Domodedovo airports in Moscow. According to unnamed officials quoted by TASS, flights at Moscow's airports were suspended early on Wednesday. Later, the Russian aviation authority indicated that Moscow airports were operating normally after a temporary suspension of flights earlier in the day due to a drone attack attempt on the Russian capital. Major airports around the Russian capital have repeatedly suspended incoming and outgoing flights in recent days due to Ukrainian drone attacks.
