Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held a phone call in which they discussed the escalation between Israelis and Palestinians. Abdullahian stated, "What is happening in the Palestinian territories is a response to Netanyahu's extremism and the injustice faced by the Palestinian people." The Iranian foreign minister referred to what he termed "barbaric practices" by Israel, citing "cutting off water and electricity and preventing the delivery of food and medicine to the people of Gaza," in reference to the Israeli Defense Minister's announcement on Monday to place the sector under "complete blockade." For its part, the Russian news agency noted that the two ministers emphasized "the importance of an immediate halt to armed confrontations and resolving the situation on the basis of established international legal principles." It is worth mentioning that the Kremlin has confirmed its efforts to maintain strong relations with both Israelis and Palestinians.
