International Olympic Committee Confident in Success of Paris 2024 Olympics

International Olympic officials expressed their regret today, Tuesday, over the recent disturbances in France but stated their confidence that the country will host a successful Olympic Games next year. Since the killing of Nahel (17 years old) last Tuesday, rioters have set cars on fire, looted stores, and targeted municipal buildings and other state properties. A spokesman for the International Olympic Committee confirmed that "the violence has no relation to the Olympics." He stated, "We have complete confidence in the organizing committee and the French authorities to deliver a successful Olympic Games." Olympic sites have not been directly affected by the riots, although the façade of the Olympic water training center in Paris was damaged during the violence. Paris will host the Olympics from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
