First Egyptian Civilian Plane Lands in Sudan Since Outbreak of Crisis

This Tuesday morning, the first Egyptian civilian flights arrived at Port Sudan Airport since the outbreak of clashes in Sudan. This comes after the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority announced the opening of the airspace in the eastern part of the country as an alternative destination to Khartoum Airport, following four months of halted operations due to the fighting between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces. Previously, the authority decided to reopen the eastern airspace to international navigation starting Tuesday, August 15, 2023, and inaugurated an air traffic control center in Port Sudan. The Sudanese airspace had been closed since mid-April, following the onset of the conflict between the army led by Transitional Sovereignty Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Hemeti.
