Several heads of United Nations humanitarian agencies announced in a statement published today, Thursday, that they will not engage in any unilateral proposals to create "safe zones" in the Gaza Strip. They stated that such measures could pose risks of harm to civilians, including significant loss of life, given the current conditions in the area. Signatories included UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths and World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
