The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Halmahera Island in Indonesia today, Wednesday. It added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 120 kilometers. The Indonesian agency responsible for disaster mitigation did not respond immediately to a request for comment regarding any damages. Indonesia is located within a zone known as the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific, an area of high seismic activity situated above several tectonic plates.
