Wildfires Engulf Canada

Wildfires continued today, Thursday, across Canada, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes, and creating smoke that has spread to U.S. cities. Bill Blair, the federal government's emergency preparedness minister, stated, "The fires have burned approximately 9.4 million acres, nearly 15 times the ten-year average, and warm, dry weather is expected to persist in the coming months." Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attributed the cause of the fires to climate change, writing on his official Twitter account: "These fires are affecting systems, lives, livelihoods, and our air quality."
