The Spanish Parliament voted today, Thursday, narrowly in favor of appointing Pedro Sánchez as Prime Minister for a new term, thus ending a prolonged stalemate following inconclusive general elections held in July. The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party reached separate agreements with several regional parties to gain their support, which included a controversial bill regarding amnesty for Catalan separatists that sparked protests across the country. Sánchez's initiative received 179 votes in favor and 171 votes against, with no members abstaining. The opposition came from the conservative People's Party, the far-right Vox party, and the sole deputy in Parliament from the Union of the People of Navarre.
