Fire in Erbil Building Leaves 32 People Dead or Injured

The Health Directorate in Suran district of Erbil province announced that 32 people were either killed or injured in a fire inside a building used as housing for students and faculty in Erbil. The directorate reported that "the fire incident occurred inside a building used for student and faculty housing at the University of Suran in Suran district, resulting in the death of 14 individuals and injuries to 18 others due to the fire." The Civil Defense Directorate in Suran district stated that "the fire broke out on the third and fourth floors," confirming that "the fire has been brought under control." It added that "Suran city is located about 70 kilometers from the center of Erbil province, and the building housed both male and female teachers," noting that "six members of the civil defense teams were injured during the firefighting and rescue operations."
