Tunisia at the United Nations: We Will Not Accept Any Covert Resettlement of Migrants

Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar emphasized in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York that "Tunisia will not accept the covert resettlement of irregular migrants." He added that Tunisia condemns "all irresponsible political and media exploitation of the suffering of victims of irregular migration," pointing to the need to complete the process of the "Conference on Development and Migration" that was hosted by the Italian capital Rome early last summer, initiated by Tunisia and Italy. He stated that Tunisia stresses the necessity for "all parties, including countries of origin, transit, destination, and regional and international organizations, to assume their responsibilities regarding the escalation of irregular migration, which requires addressing its deep-rooted causes rather than merely treating its consequences."
