The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has prioritized the safety and comfort of visitors to Mecca through an extensive network of public facilities. Field teams have been assigned to monitor the efficiency and safety of this network, serving pilgrims and visitors arriving in the holy city. Among the key facilities are (59) bridges, (58) tunnels, (110,000) light poles and towers, (120,000) lighting units, (540) kilometers of drainage networks, (5) dams, and (285) public parks, in addition to the main and secondary streets scattered throughout all neighborhoods and squares of Mecca.
The Mecca Municipality has dedicated these field teams to oversee all these facilities and ensure their efficient performance. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), there has been a focus on establishing timelines to monitor various projects, supervising the work of contractors and investors licensed by the municipality, and forming several technical teams to oversee maintenance work for all these facilities and ensure their effectiveness in facing any emergencies during the seasons. An emergency plan has also been put in place to address any urgent situations that may arise at any time.
