UNIFIL Investigates in Southern Lebanon and Commitment to Calm

Candice Ardil, the Deputy Director of the UNIFIL Media Office, stated today that "considering the recent tensions along the Blue Line, yesterday's incident and reports of injuries occurred at a very sensitive time, and fortunately, the situation today is calm." In an interview with the National News Agency, Ardil said, "The Head of the UNIFIL Mission and its Force Commander, Major General Aroldo Lazzaro, continues to communicate with authorities on both sides of the Blue Line, and UNIFIL peacekeepers continue to monitor the situation, and we are investigating yesterday's events." She added, "This is evidence of the commitment of the authorities on both sides to avoid escalation; however, we have seen that events can escalate quickly, and we urge everyone to continue to refrain from taking any actions that may increase tensions." Injuries were reported among Hezbollah members on Wednesday after the Israeli army targeted them while they were confronting an Israeli drone near the Birkah Risha in southern Lebanon.
