The head of the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, indicated today, Tuesday, that the agency has integrated artificial intelligence into its operations and utilized this technology to thwart significant threats, highlighting the potential of generative artificial intelligence in law enforcement. Bar stated in a speech at the "Internet Week" conference hosted by Tel Aviv University: "AI technology has been naturally incorporated into our intercept machine, and using artificial intelligence, we discovered a large number of threats." He added: "AI has facilitated the agency's work by reporting flaws in surveillance data and sorting through 'endless' intelligence information," noting that the technology also played a secondary role in decision-making and was "like a companion at the table or a co-pilot." Recognizing the primary role of rapidly advancing technology in the public domain, Bar called for cooperation between high-tech companies and government agencies like his to ensure that artificial intelligence leads to evolution rather than revolution. He urged that expected regulations should include a review of laws related to the agency, as well as a redefinition of classified documents.
