Iran Detains Mahsa Amini's Uncle on Anniversary of Her Death

A source close to Mahsa Amini's family, whose death in a detention center run by the morality police sparked nationwide protests for months, reported on Wednesday that "Iranian security forces arrested the uncle of the young Kurdish Iranian several days ahead of the anniversary of her death." The source stated: "A group of security forces went to the home of Safa Aali, Mahsa Amini's uncle, yesterday... they searched his car and home without a court order and then arrested him... They also confiscated some documents, including his passport." The source added: "Before his arrest, security forces had been pursuing Aali for a week... the family does not know where he has been taken." Fearing a resurgence of unrest that shook the Islamic Republic, Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on opposition to deter any gatherings on the anniversary, which falls on September 16.
