First Disciplinary Action in the 2022 World Cup

The International Football Federation "FIFA" has taken disciplinary measures against the Ecuadorian Federation due to "offensive chants" issued by fans of the Latin team last Sunday. This occurred during the opening match of the World Cup, which ended with a 2-0 victory over Qatar. The international body did not specify the chants but indicated that it based its actions on Article 13 of its disciplinary code, which penalizes "insulting or discriminatory language that offends the dignity or integrity of a country, person, or group." FIFA punishes such acts with a "10-match suspension" when it involves a player or official, a fine "not less than 20,000 Swiss francs" (approximately 20,400 euros), and a match behind closed doors when targeting a federation. This is the first disciplinary action in the tournament.
