A document reviewed by Reuters on Thursday revealed that the Spanish club "Barcelona" is under formal investigation, suspected of bribery in a case related to the activities of the refereeing committee in the country over two decades. The judge responsible for the investigation, Joaquín Aguirre López, stated earlier this month that "Barcelona may have benefited from potential systematic corruption." Barcelona denied any wrongdoing in a statement last February. In March, prosecutors filed a complaint regarding alleged payments of over 7.3 million euros (7.8 million dollars) over 17 years to companies owned by José María Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the refereeing committee of the Spanish Football Federation from 1993 to 2018.
