The "Democratic Gathering" bloc affirmed its support for the nomination of former minister Jihad Azour for the presidential elections during a meeting attended by party leader Walid Jumblatt and bloc leader MP Taymour Jumblatt. Walid Jumblatt was the first to propose Azour's name among a list of candidates discussed with various political forces based on consensus and moving away from the logic of challenge. The bloc emphasized that supporting Azour does not in any way position them within any alignment, stating, "We were the first to propose him before he was endorsed by any other party."
The Democratic Gathering also reiterated its commitment to dialogue and achieving the desired consensus, expressing surprise at considering Azour a challenger candidate. They urged all forces to "adhere to the logic of genuine dialogue in order to complete the presidential entitlements in the fastest manner." They stressed that the achievement of this primary entitlement remains the gateway to rebuilding institutions and initiating the reform and rescue process on various levels.
