The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) today opened the door for its first joint tournament with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in the 500-point category by agreeing to move the "San Jose" tournament to Washington this year. WTA President Steve Simon stated, "The legacy of this beloved event will continue at its new location." The "San Jose" tournament has taken place at various locations along the West Coast, including Stanford University and Oakland in California, and will be held this year in Washington from July 29 to August 6, alongside the men's tournament at the Rock Creek Tennis Center in preparation for the US Open.
