Minister of Health: Cholera is Under Control, But!

The Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Firas Abiad, indicated that "the state of infrastructure and water and sewage networks creates a conducive environment for cholera," pointing out that "there are municipalities that were proactive in protecting their areas from the epidemic." He added in a conversation with "Voice of Lebanon": "We need two points of chlorine to disinfect every liter of water," stressing that "the situation is not out of control, but if we do not act quickly and carefully, it can become dangerous and spiral out of control. Therefore, we must not reach the point of endemic cholera." Abiad also noted that "the first batch of the cholera vaccine we received will be given to the medical team, and 600,000 of these vaccines will be for those over the age of 60, which will be funded by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees," and continued: "We are working on the second batch, and the vaccines are free. The vaccine is administered annually orally, and its side effects are minimal."
