Lebanese people who passionately followed the football celebration in spite of their tragedies and crises will be forced to return to watching a different World Cup on the political field, which extends its rounds with no decisive goals to pull them out of their predicament. The systematic obstruction of the presidential election and its repercussions on various living and life conditions, particularly the economic situation, remains prevalent as they await a relief that may take a long time coming.
This obstruction, along with the recent events in the southern region, particularly the incident in Aqbiyeh and the assaults on private property in the town of Rmeish, prompted Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi to raise his voice again and demand an end to the illegal and loose weaponry, targeting Hezbollah and holding it responsible for everything happening in Lebanon in general and in the south specifically. He called for the formation of an international investigative committee to uncover the circumstances of the Aqbiyeh crime and to put an end to this weaponry.
Sources following the atmosphere of Bkerke described the situation in the south as “concerning and dangerous that cannot be ignored.” In a statement to "Anbaa," they justified the high-pitched rhetoric of Patriarch Al-Rahi by saying, “It is time to raise our voices to make the international community hear us, as the only remaining voice raised against the injustice that seeks to seize the lands of Christian villages is that of Bkerke.”
The sources called on the Christian leadership, regardless of their affiliations, to "stand behind Bkerke to support the resilience of the people in the south and to stop the series of land seizures that started from Lassa and has not yet ended in Rmeish."
