Brazilian President Leaves Hospital After Hip Surgery

The office of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that he left the hospital on Sunday after undergoing hip surgery two days prior, and will spend three weeks recovering at the presidential residence in Alvorada. Lula had surgery at the "Sirio Libanes" hospital on Friday for inflammation in his right hip joint due to very painful erosion of the cartilage in the femoral head. His doctors had expected him to remain in the hospital until Tuesday, but he began walking on Saturday as part of his physical therapy sessions. Lula stated that he has been experiencing ongoing pain for more than a year, but this did not prevent him from traveling to dozens of countries since taking office in January. Lula will not resume his presidential trips abroad until the end of November, as he plans to travel to the United Arab Emirates to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
