The decision announced by President Najib Mikati, stating that the judicial authorities in the Principality of Monaco closed the investigation into his case due to a lack of evidence, turned out to be issued because no investigation was conducted in the file at all. The authorities in the principality had contacted the Public Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat, who referred the request to Judge Imad Qabalan; however, no investigation took place in Lebanon, unlike what happened with the case of Governor Riad Salameh. The Lebanese authorities merely informed Monaco that there were no suspicions of money laundering, according to "Akbar".
