The Swiss government announced today, Wednesday, that it "will ask Parliament to allocate additional funding of 90 million Swiss francs (99.04 million dollars) for humanitarian assistance to the Middle East." The Swiss Federal Council stated in a statement: "The humanitarian consequences of armed conflict in the Middle East are severe in Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories, and the neighboring affected countries." The allocations will primarily go to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, United Nations relief agencies, international agencies, and non-governmental organizations that provide aid to those affected by armed conflict in the region.
