The demonstration was held in protest against a festival organized by the Eritrean embassy on Yad Harutz Street in the city, with the demonstrators being asylum seekers opposing the regime in Eritrea. The Israeli police stated that 27 officers were injured in the clashes and at least 3 protesters were shot by police who used live ammunition. The protest escalated into violent confrontations with the police, as stones, wooden planks, and trash bags were thrown at them.
