MLS Commissioner Don Garber pointed out that the growth of the Saudi league does not pose a threat to the American league but represents an opportunity for the development of the game worldwide. Garber stated, "I believe that the growth of league competitions in emerging markets, with energy and investments, is positive," expressing hope that an American team will have the chance to face a Saudi competitor in the Club World Cup set to take place in the United States in 2025. He added, "I want to see the rest of the world be a big part of the football family, whether that's in Saudi Arabia, Asia, or some of the rising leagues in South America."
