German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated on Monday that "the killing of the German-Israeli Shani Louk demonstrates what he described as the brutality of Hamas and the need to hold the armed Palestinian group accountable." The Israeli government had earlier confirmed Louk's death, who was kidnapped by Hamas during a music festival on October 7 in an attack that Israel said resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people, mostly civilians. Scholz said during an official visit to Africa: "For me, this news is horrific. It shows the brutality of Hamas."
