The fee for visiting a doctor (general or specialist) in Lebanon has increased, now ranging between 650,000 Lebanese Lira and 1,000,000 Lebanese Lira. In this context, the Director General of the National Social Security Fund, Mohammad Karky, issued a decision on 6/9/2023 under number 422, which amended the fees for doctors' consultations outside hospitals as follows:
- Specialist doctor: 1,000,000 Lebanese Lira.
- General doctor: 650,000 Lebanese Lira.
These new fees for medical consultations outside hospitals will be effective starting 6/9/2023. Consequently, the Director General urged contracted doctors to respond positively to this initiative by the Social Security Fund, as their fees have been multiplied by 20, calling for cooperation and adherence to these fees to jointly alleviate the burden of the crisis on insured individuals. Karky also appealed to the Doctors' Syndicates in Beirut and the North to assist the National Social Security Fund in implementing this notice to protect the rights of the insured and to mitigate the hardships affecting the Lebanese people in general and the insured in particular, expressing hope that the Fund's management would not have to take punitive measures against doctors who violate the new fees established by the Fund.
