A spokesperson for the White House stated that Israel and the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) have not yet reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire. The spokesperson added that the United States continues to work towards an agreement between the two sides. A second U.S. official confirmed that no agreement has been reached yet. The Washington Post had reported earlier that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Qatar, for a five-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of 50 hostages or more. Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House, stated in a statement: "No agreement has been reached yet, but we are continuing to work hard towards an agreement."
