The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced on Saturday that six people were killed after a small plane crashed in the Kananaskis Mountain area west of Calgary. They explained that "the plane, carrying five passengers and a pilot, departed from Springbank Airport near Calgary on Friday night en route to Salmon Arm in British Columbia." The police reported that "contact with the plane was lost around 9:30 PM local time (0330 GMT Saturday). Shortly after the plane was reported overdue, a squadron from the Royal Canadian Air Force conducted a search." A police official stated that "the squadron found the crash site and, with the help of rescue teams, searched for survivors, but it turned out that all six people on board had died." He noted that "all the bodies were recovered despite difficulties due to the rugged terrain," adding that "the Canadian Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident."
