Casualties in Clashes Between "Taliban" and Iranian Border Guards

Casualties in Clashes Between

Clashes broke out today, Saturday, between elements of the "Taliban" movement and Iranian border guards in Kanj Province, southern Afghanistan. Afghan media reported that the clash occurred at the border shared with Iran, specifically in the Makki District of Nimroz Province. The Iranian border guards in the bordering province of Sistan and Baluchestan confirmed the clashes with Taliban forces, which resulted in the deaths of several militants following an attempt to breach Iranian territory.

A spokesperson for the Afghan "Taliban" stated that "two were killed, and others were injured following the exchange of fire between the Iranian border guards and Taliban fighters near a border point between Iran and Afghanistan." Iranian media outlet "Tasnim" reported today that "the clashes between Taliban forces and Iranian border guards occurred at the borders of Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province and Afghanistan's Nimroz Province." Iranian border guards indicated that "the clash occurred because of an attempt by unidentified militants to enter Iranian territory, and the exchange of gunfire between the two sides resulted in significant losses among the militants."

They noted that the clashes ended after "the Iranian embassy in Kabul communicated with the relevant officials in the Taliban." Iranian media reported last week that five members of the Iranian border guard were killed in a confrontation with militants in the Saravan area of Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran.
