The Tunisian naval border guards announced today the thwarting of 17 illegal migration attempts departing from the Tunisian coasts towards the opposite shore of the Mediterranean. A statement from the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that during the operation, 470 illegal migrants from sub-Saharan African nationalities were arrested. It added that security forces in the city of Sfax, southern Tunisia, arrested nine individuals involved in organizing illegal migration operations, noting that the detained individuals have been referred to judicial authorities for necessary measures to be taken against them.
