The Minister of Agriculture in the caretaker government, Abbas al-Haj Hassan, confirmed that the Israeli army has burned more than 40,000 ancient olive trees in southern Lebanon, using internationally banned white phosphorus bombs. He revealed in a statement that "the Lebanese government is in the process of filing a complaint with the United Nations in protest of the enemy's brutality and violation of international law and Lebanon's sovereignty." Al-Haj Hassan emphasized the "right of the Lebanese people to defend their homeland, which is being violated every minute by Israeli warplanes that constantly fly over various Lebanese territories."
