The spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq stated today, Sunday, that the Iraqi federal government and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government in the north of the country have reached a preliminary agreement to resume oil exports from the north this week. Baghdad is set to communicate with the Turkish side to request the resumption of oil flow through the pipeline.
The official in charge of communication with foreign media in the Kurdistan government, Lawk Ghafouri, said: "After several meetings between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government, a preliminary agreement has been reached to resume oil exports through the Ceyhan port this week." He added: "This agreement will remain in effect until the Iraqi parliament approves the oil and gas law."
An official in the Kurdistan Regional Government told Reuters: "Baghdad will send a request to resume oil flows to Ankara." The Iraqi Ministry of Oil in Baghdad expressed hope for a final agreement soon with the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding the resumption of oil exports from the north.
