Trump Urges Canada to Become a U.S. State to Save Its Auto Industry

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Canada should become an American state to rescue its auto industry. During a radio interview, Trump accused Canada of "pillaging the United States for many years, being among the toughest parties to deal with, and believing they have the right to do so."

He added, "Canada should become a state; if it were a state, there would be no problems. I would allow the auto companies there to remain. But we are acquiring many of them after imposing tariffs."

Earlier, Trump announced that starting early next year, the U.S. plans to impose a 50 percent tariff on Canadian cars, auto parts, and steel.

Late last month, Trump urged Canadian businesses operating in the U.S. to move entirely to American soil to avoid tariffs and has previously spoken on several occasions about the possibility of Canada joining the United States.
