Cinema for All: Deaf Cinematic Week in Lebanon

The "Tiro for Arts" association and "Istanbul Theatre" will open the "Deaf Cinema Week" at the "National Lebanese Free Theatre" in the city of Tyre on September 8th under the slogan "Cinema for Everyone." A statement distributed by the "Tiro for Arts" association and "Istanbul Theatre" noted that "Deaf Cinema Week is the first of its kind in the city and Lebanon as it is open to everyone and free of charge," highlighting that "the films are translated into sign language, including short films prepared by trainees from the deaf community, in collaboration with the 'Cinema for Everyone' Foundation. Training workshops will also be held at the theatre specifically for individuals with special needs." In this context, actor and director Qassem Istanbul, founder of the "National Lebanese Theatre," stated: "The continued screening of films and free training workshops, despite all the crises around us, represents an important opportunity for meeting and for the audience to get to know different cultures from around the world so that art truly belongs to everyone. Especially for individuals with disabilities, we must empower them and develop their abilities through the arts via training workshops and the weeks dedicated to the blind and deaf cinema."
