A source in the French Ministry of Defense indicated today, Tuesday, that "Qatar has expressed a desire to proceed with a new deal for Rafale fighter jets after purchasing 36 aircraft since 2015." This comes days after French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu visited Doha to strengthen military relations. The source added that Lecornu has the impression that there is "a desire to move forward" following his discussions with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, stating that "this could mean the purchase of new aircraft and updating the current fleet." The source refrained from confirming a report by the economic newspaper "La Tribune" that Doha is interested in purchasing 24 additional jets manufactured by Dassault and possibly updating its current fleet with the latest technologies.
