The Russian Ministry of Defense disclosed early Tuesday that it is conducting tactical exercises with fighter jets over the Baltic Sea, primarily aimed at testing readiness for combat operations and special mission tasks. The ministry stated on Telegram: "Su-27 crews (which are fighter jets) from the Baltic Fleet have fired from air-launched weapons at cruise missiles and simulated enemy aircraft." It added, "The main objective of the training is to test the flight crew's readiness to perform combat and special missions as intended." The ministry noted that in addition to enhancing skills, fighter aircraft crews are "conducting combat tasks around the clock" to guard the airspace of Kaliningrad.
Russian news agency Interfax reported on Tuesday that a battalion of ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet entered the southern parts of the Philippine Sea to carry out tasks as part of a long-range maritime corridor. Russia is working to strengthen its defenses in its vast eastern regions bordering the Pacific Asia area, accusing the United States of increasing its presence there and raising security concerns in Japan and across the region.
