The military administration of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, announced on Telegram that they had repelled airstrike attacks near Kyiv in the early hours of Sunday. Witnesses from Reuters reported hearing several explosions in the Kyiv region, which appeared to be caused by the shelling of targets using air defense systems. Serhii Popko, the head of the military administration for the city, stated on Telegram that "according to preliminary information, no aerial targets reached the capital; air defenses destroyed everything heading toward the city before arrival." Sirens were activated across Ukraine to warn of air raids.
In a related event, Serhii Lysak, the governor of the Dnipro region, reported on Sunday that a two-year-old girl was killed and 22 people were injured, including five children, when a Russian missile struck near the centrally located city. Lysak wrote on Telegram: "Last night, the body of a two-year-old girl was just recovered from the rubble of a house," adding: "Seventeen people are receiving treatment in the hospital following the attack on a residential area by short-range Iskander missiles."
