The noise from Deputy Jibran Bassil has not drawn attention away from the invitation launched by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to turn the next session for the election of a President of the Republic on Thursday into a dialogue among the parties in order to agree on certain ideas and make a breakthrough against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis of lack of consensus and the continuous state of obstruction and stagnation, especially since the country has no capacity to endure the disruption of constitutional institutions.
Berri's invitation aligns with the views of opposition forces regarding dialogue within constitutional institutions, specifically the Parliament. Referring to Berri's previous proposal to hold a dialogue in Ain al-Tineh among the heads of parliamentary blocs, which was met with rejection from the Lebanese Forces and reservations from the Free Patriotic Movement, considering it outside institutional frameworks, the proposed dialogue this time remains within the context of institutional and parliamentary work, and missing it would mean obstructing a parliamentary session.
However, the picture of dialogue remains unclear, particularly since the mechanism is not defined, pending further clarifications. In this context, former Deputy Mohammed Nasrallah indicated that "Berri is open to any formula for initiating dialogue, provided that the parliamentary blocs are serious in their positive intentions regarding the subject."
In an interview with "Al-Anbaa" electronic newspaper, Nasrallah pointed out that "the dialogue could take two forms: the first is a dialogue in the general assembly within a regular session of the Parliament, and the second is a dialogue within a smaller committee representing all blocs. In my personal opinion, the second form is preferable to avoid wasting time in expanded sessions, especially since smaller dialogues tend to be more productive and do not exclude anyone."
Regarding the topics of the dialogue and the ideas that will be raised, Nasrallah stated: "The table will be mistress of itself; Berri will prepare ideas and will listen to proposals from the blocs. Subsequently, contentious topics and their solutions will be raised, and if this idea succeeds and a real outcome is reached, then it would be an achievement in producing a national president."
