Severe storms sweeping the Russian coast and the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea resulted in the deaths of three people and the evacuation of hundreds on Monday. According to the Russian news agency TASS, "one person died in the resort town of Sochi, another in the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula, and a third aboard a ship in the Kerch Strait, which separates the Crimean Peninsula from the Russian mainland." Storms have affected the Black Sea region since Friday. The governors of the Russian-appointed areas of Crimea and Sevastopol declared a state of emergency.
