Jordanian Army: Downing of a Drone Coming from Syria

The Jordanian army announced today, Monday, the downing of a drone loaded with narcotics that came from Syria in an area on its northern border, marking the third incident of its kind in recent weeks. A military source responsible in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces stated that "border guards, in coordination with military security agencies and the Narcotics Control Department, monitored an attempt to illegally cross a drone over the border from Syrian territory to Jordanian territory, and it was downed within Jordanian territory."

It was revealed that "after the drone was downed, it was found to be carrying two kilograms of crystal substance." This incident comes a day after a meeting of military and security leaders from Jordan and Syria to discuss ways to combat the escalating smuggling problem. Despite the commitments made by Damascus, Jordan claims it has not seen any genuine attempts to tighten the grip on drug trafficking. Damascus asserts that it is doing its utmost to curb smuggling operations and continues to apprehend smuggling gangs in the south of the country. Syria denies any collusion with Iran-backed factions that have links to the army and security forces.
