Zelensky: The Situation in Bakhmut is Extremely Volatile

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the military situation around the city of Bakhmut, which has been under siege by Russian forces for months, as "extremely volatile" on Sunday. In his nightly address via video link, he revealed that two people were killed in a Russian mortar attack in the northern Sumy region and referenced earlier reports of a Russian shelling that resulted in six deaths in the city of Konstantynivka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. Zelensky thanked his soldiers fighting in Avdiivka, Marinka, and Bakhmut. Russian forces have been trying for months to encircle and seize the city of Bakhmut, which had a population of 70,000 before the Russian attack. Prominent Ukrainian military analyst Oleksiy Danylov stated that "the fighting has engulfed the city center," adding that "Ukrainian forces repelled 25 enemy attacks, but the Russian forces captured the Azom metals plant, which Ukrainian troops had defended for days."
