Shipping Companies Anticipate Congestion at U.S. Ports Due to Red Sea Crisis

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced today, Friday, that shipping companies have informed them that they "expect an increase in congestion at some U.S. container ports in the next four to six weeks as shipments are rerouted to avoid the Red Sea." The department added that company owners expressed their concerns in a call with the department's Multimodal Freight Office on Thursday. The call focused on supply chain issues arising from the situation in the Red Sea, where Houthi attacks in Yemen have disrupted shipping.
