Artillery Clash Between Army and Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum

Another day of escalation and fighting is witnessed in Sudanese cities on Monday in the ongoing war that has lasted for months, with no sign of halting the combat that is solely paid for by the Sudanese people. In the latest developments, correspondents from "Al Arabiya" and "Al Hadath" in Sudan reported that the army and Rapid Support Forces exchanged intermittent artillery fire in the early hours of this Monday around the vicinity of the army's general command in the capital, Khartoum. Army aircraft flew over Bahri city north of Khartoum, targeting several sites and areas where the Rapid Support Forces were present in the city, while military operations around the Jabal Awliya water reservoir south of Khartoum came to a halt.

Moreover, Human Rights Watch urged the UN Security Council on Monday to consider all options to protect civilians in the Darfur region of Sudan, following recent attacks targeting non-Arabs that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians. The semi-military Rapid Support Forces, which emerged from the Janjaweed militias, have been engaged in a war against the Sudanese army since mid-April, igniting after months of tension and evolving into open fighting in the capital Khartoum and other urban areas in the African nation.
