Death of Former Minister Elias Saba

Former minister and deputy Elias Shukri Saba passed away at the age of 94. Elias Saba was appointed as an economic advisor in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Finance in 1961. In 1963, he became the head of the Economics Department at the American University and later an assistant professor there. He was appointed Minister of Finance in October 1970 in the cabinet of President Saeb Salam, and then Deputy Prime Minister in December 1970. In October 2004, he served as Minister of Finance in the government of President Omar Karami. He was elected as a deputy for the Koura district in June 1991 and served on the Finance and Budget, National Economy, and Planning and Development committees.

Saba participated in various intellectual conferences and seminars in Lebanon and the Arab world, and he was also involved in founding the Board of Trustees of the Arab Thought Forum. He authored writings and articles addressing various economic, social, and political issues, including the exchange rate system in Lebanon and Syria from 1939 to 1957, a study on the May 17 agreement titled "The Agreement in Deadlock," and topics related to the House of Representatives and controlling financial chaos.
