Julian Nagelsmann Takes Over as Germany's National Team Coach

The German Football Association announced today, Friday, the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann as the coach of the national team until the Euro 2024 tournament, taking over from Hans Flick. It was clarified that Nagelsmann, 36 years old, who became the second youngest coach in the history of the national team, has signed a contract until the end of July 2024, and he will be assisted by Sandro Wagner and Benjamin Gluck.

In a press conference, Nagelsmann stated: "The goal is the European Championship next summer; this is a major challenge for me." He added, "We take this task on with a great deal of responsibility. The whole nation is supporting us, and we want to excite them with fantastic football." He continued, "We want to play in a specific way and demand attractive football, not just in terms of results. It’s the European Championship in our homeland, and the whole country is cheering for us; that is the goal."

Flick was dismissed earlier this month, one day after an embarrassing friendly defeat in Germany to Japan, 4-1, marking continued poor results for the four-time world champions in recent years.
