Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino announced on Friday that "Reece James will not participate against West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday and will be out for several weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during training." James, who became Chelsea's captain this summer, left the pitch during the second half of the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last Saturday. The coach stated that "he was suffering from fatigue but the defender has now sustained a muscle injury." Pochettino informed reporters that it is "a hamstring injury, and he won't be out for days but possibly for weeks," adding: "I think it’s a sad moment because he is the team captain, he was excited and full of energy about being captain, we will assess his condition day by day." Regarding Moisés Caicedo, Pochettino said: "Adding a player with these qualities is a great achievement for the club and shows the efforts of the owners and sporting directors." He continued: "We want to evaluate their condition, Moisés and Romeo Lavia have experienced weeks of pressure. We don’t want to rush; if they are ready for tomorrow’s match (Saturday), they will participate, or we will wait a few more days."
