Australia Commits Financial Contributions to Provide Affordable Housing

The Australian Labor Party government announced today, Saturday, that it will allocate 2 billion Australian dollars (1.4 billion US dollars) to provide thousands of new affordable homes across the country, as the nation grapples with rising living costs. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that "the funds, which will be utilized by June 30, 2025, will be delivered to state and territory governments within two weeks to enhance the supply of public housing for Australians on waiting lists." Albanese added in a speech delivered in Melbourne: "My Labor government believes that every Australian deserves a home, which will be entirely public housing, and this funding is for public housing." The government revealed in May that it would incorporate 14.6 billion Australian dollars over four years in the federal budget to alleviate living costs for families and businesses, promising that this would not lead to increased inflation.
